Induced Turbulence
Notes
The skies offer no sign of relief as the absence of rain stretches on. Driven by drought, mankind turns to desperate measures, guiding pressure from above and forcing the conditions into alignment. The turbulence builds, and at last the sky yields to rainfall. But before long, the balance slips from their grasp, and it becomes too late to stop what has been set in motion. This is my attempt at an interesting Engineer script, featuring the Lleech + Vortox + Mastermind engine. Many combos/pairings of Minions and Demons can be particularly strong for evil here, for example Vortox + Organ Grinder or Lleech + DA, so the Engineer will often want to deal with those combos, but doing so will likely open up the threat of a Mastermind or Goblin. This is a script full of landmines for the good team. If your players aren't having a heart attack, you or they are doing something wrong. There are many reasons to drunk yourself as the Organ Grinder here, besides the traditional framing of a player. For example, you could drunk yourself to bait the Engineer into making a Vortox, only to then turn on your ability later in the game. Drunking yourself also works quite well for an Engineer, Preacher, or Plague Doctor bluff. Recommended rulings: A Preached Minion with the Plague Doctor Goblin ability also disables that Goblin ability. If the Engineer turns the Lleech into the Vortox on a Mastermind night (after the host's execution), the Mastermind ability is immediately turned off, but can still trigger again later in the game. I would only recommend running this script at 10+ players, as the existence of an Organ Grinder disproves the presence of other Minions, which the script relies heavily upon. Note that the night order has been slightly adjusted to prevent the Engineer being immune to Lleech poison on night 1. V1.3.0: Alchemist --> Magician - While Alchemist-Organ Grinder was fun and interesting, the other Alchemist abilities weren't. Devil's Advocate was too weak, Mastermind was interesting, but taking over the Engineer's job, and Goblin was too strong, especially with a Preacher in play. Magician helps to hinder evil's voting coordination, especially in Lleech games were the Minions really want to know who the host is. Chambermaid --> Philosopher - Chambermaid was simply too strong and solved Vortox too easily, especially with very little varied waking patterns from the evil team. Philosopher allows town to gain whatever they need at a moment's notice, giving more ways to stop Organ Grinder + Vortox losses (either by going Preacher or Engineer), or giving more info should town need it. Snitch --> Klutz - The Snitch didn't align with the rest of the Outsiders, and could even be a hindrance to evil in some setups, as they'd often offer themselves up for execution on day 1, both to satisfy the Vortox and to clear themselves as a host. Klutz aligns more with the high-stakes theme of the script, and has a much higher incentive to stay alive. Removed Storm Catcher - The Storm Catcher unfortunately has a poor interaction with the Lleech where a final 3 of an Engineer, Lleech, and host would be fairly unwinnable for evil, as they would need town to specifically execute the Engineer, which is especially difficult considering the Storm Catcher partially existed to signal the Lleech to avoid hosting them. The script can still highlight the Engineer in this environment without the Storm Catcher, and I feel the risk of hosting an Engineer that then attempts to remove the Organ Grinder is still relatively low. Added Cacklejack - The Cacklejack, while fairly wild here, could do a lot to strongly advantage either team's mechanical position in the game. V1.2.0: Sage --> Banshee - Sage has limited use here besides finding a Lleech then having them engineered into a Vortox, but that requires the Sage to die quite early, and there to even be an Engineer in play, which is fairly unlikely for most games. Banshee gives more voting power to the good team if they can activate, which can allow the good team to take better control over Organ Grinder voting and reduce the likelihood of ties. Removed Bishop - Organ Grinder is very temperamental here and taking away nomination control from town could lead to less coordination and more accidental ties. (also adding the Vortox/Banshee jinx takes up too much space on the fancy script for a 4th Traveller...) V1.1.0: Tinker --> Snitch - While the Tinker is interesting on scripts of this variety, without a Boomdandy on script it was very easy for the Tinker to simply offer themselves up for execution immediately.
