Teensy Brewing
Notes
A simple way to make Trouble Brewing distilled for Teensyville: Teensy Brewing. Running the full Trouble Brewing script for 5/6 players usually falls flat so I made this script instead. I've been running this since 2020 with pretty good success. The script is no Laissez un Faire or Lleech of Distrust, but its great for first time players and for simpler games of Teensyville. The point is to make this script feel like Trouble Brewing, not something new. The script is fairly social with the amount of misinformation that threatens town. It has simple starting information that is both powerful and bluffable (Chef and Washerwoman), two of the most powerful information gatherers (Fortune Teller and Undertaker), protection (Monk), and a reason for good team to lie (Ravenkeeper). The starting information gets the conversation started, Undertaker means people are keen to execute, Fortune Teller can find the demon quickly but have to couple that with social reads, Ravenkeeper prevents all good players from outing themselves immediately and gives angst to the demon's choice. All of these townsfolk are equally bluffable by evil. For outsiders I chose the Drunk because its what defines Trouble Brewing and is a hidden outsider. Then Saint for both an exciting alternate win condition and fun evil bluff. The hidden outsider is important so I think the Drunk must always remain. Replacing the Saint with the Recluse doesn't add much, at that point there would be too much misregistration and its not interesting like the Saint is. You should definitely use the Sentinel in a 5 player game, then use your discretion at 6 players (if your group likes chaos use it, otherwise don't). The Spy is powerful in teensyville because its easier to remember 5/6 players and finding your demon is fun, along with the added misregistration. The Spy also allows for fun plays as a good player. The Poisoner is another hallmark of Trouble Brewing, and does their thing of threatening town's confidence in their own information, but can also serve as a way for a minion to find their demon too. This lacks the "louder" townfolk like Virgin, Slayer, and Mayor. I've found that they aren't as well-rounded as these more "simple" characters. I've tried putting these characters in but then that means removing one of the existing townsfolk and ultimately it made the script feel less and less like Trouble Brewing (because the script becomes focused on these "louder" characters). Downsides: * The Fortune Teller's false positive on a good player can be rough in Teensyville. This is not usually a problem but can be unfun for players who need a solid solve. You can consider using Empath instead, but Empath can be devastating in Teensyville. * The Poisoner can make information feel hopelessly unreliable for good team. This is not usually a problem but can be unfun for players who need a solid solve. * The demon has no Scarlet Woman. This is not usually a problem because game are fast and you laugh at a day one execution and play the next game.
